The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year. The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship. A Season of Dominance Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final. The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year. In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Achievements Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in prize money. She received nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media. Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence". Additional WTA Award Winners Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year. Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot. Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair. Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches. Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
