The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
