The Miami Heat put up 86 opening half scores versus the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a crushing 146-114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial NBA game since guard Rozier was detained for suspected illegal gambling.

Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested as part of a broad federal probe into sports betting. Both men contest the allegations.

However, the Heat were not distracted as they put up 86 opening half points to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the largest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year history.

League Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests

Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

Silver further said an NBA investigation into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he participated for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.

"We investigated the matter and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise here between protecting people's rights and investigating."
