🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons. During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit. A Significant Investment On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer." Network Praise In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal. "All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Different Kind of Comedy Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence. Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts. “We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” What Comes Next With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
