A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays

The winter break offer a plethora of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using patience techniques to not arguing with relatives. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out during the festive period, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they could be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
